Sides, I'd say you have an enviable life.
On a technical notes, I would draw out the line work traditionally, scan it into your computer, maybe play with the black levels, and use photoshop primarily to color the cartoons.
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I am sure that photoshop is meant and works best with raster-based images, I'm sure there are better vector-based imaging tool if you would like to actually "draw" digitally. But manipulating vector based images, is like using a shorthand, fast and easy if you know it, but difficult to learn.
